DIED TUESDAY P. M.
William McCartney, an old time resident of this county died Tuesday at the Tehama county hospital. The remains have been removed to the undertaking parlors of H. O. Perrott and the funeral will be held there this morning at ten o'clock. Rev. R. L. McArthur, pastor of the Methodist church will conduct the services. There will be a short service at the grave in Oak Hill cemetery.
The deceased was the father of C. E. [Charles Edwin] McCartney, a well known local contractor.

William married Sarah Jane Partridge on 21 Jan 1868 in Buchanan, Berrien, Mich. They had one son, Charles Edwin McCartney.

William first appears on the 1850 census in Wills, La Porte, Ind. In 1852 his family went out the Oregon Trail to Scio, Linn, Ore. His father Nathaniel McCartney died in 1856. The family then moved to Chico, Butte, Calif., where he appears in the 1860 census with his mother Abigail M (Parker) McCartney and his siblings. William returned to South Bend, Ind., to pick up some family inheritances. While there, he married. His wife seems to have left him after the birth of his son. In the 1880 census he is a cattle raiser in Lassen, Tehama, Calif.
