The family was from Mondok, Szabolcs, Hungary, and Andrew (Andras) was christened at the Mandok Hungarian Reformed Church (Hungary Reformed Church Christenings, 1624-1895). He came to the United States with his mother and his step father, Andras (Andy) Borbely/Borbey/Barber in the late 1880s. In 1900 he was a coal miner living in Spring Garden, Westmorland County, Pennsylvania with other family members. In 1910 he was a coal miner living in Billings, Montana. His mother and stepfather were living in nearby Sheridan, Wyoming. He was also identified as living in Sheridan, Wyoming, in a 1910 city directory of the city.
On 22 May 1912, Andrew Komar (age 30) married Julia Csapo (age 22) [Douglas County Marriage Records]. She was born in Hungary, and was the widow of Janos Csapo (also born in Hungary). The Csapo family was living in Iowa in 1910. Andrew and Julia were living in Omaha according to the 1914 city directory.
