Amanda' s parents Edward and Mary Jane (Polly) McCord FitzPatrick moved from Wilkes Co. N.C. to Overton Co. Tenn., where Amanda was born. Edward documented each of his children's birth by date and phase of the moon. According to a copy of the Fitz Patrick Bible, written in Edward's own hand , "October 29th, 1805 fifth child was born, Amanda by name, about five days before the change of the moon about midnight."

It is believed that her parents came to Illinois at the same time as Amanda and Young did. After the war the FitzPatrick name was shortened to "Patrick.".
