Robert J. Schmillen, 83, died at his home in Wenona on 13 April 2000. He was born in Rutland the son of Henry Joseph and Katheryn (Patton) Schmillen. Survived by four daughters, a son; seven grandchildren; five sisters; and a brother. Served in the US Army Air Corps as a radio operator in C-47 airplanes in the European Theatre during WWII (1942-1945). He was the senior vice-president and chairman of the board holding company of the Wenona State bank, where he worked for 60 years. Cremation rites were accorded.

Note: His military record from the VA indicates Robert enlisted on 25 April 1940 and was released on 25 Jun 1943. That information may be in error as well because Robert registered for the WWII draft on 16 Oct 1940 while still living at home. He listed as his employer the State Bank of Wenona.
