OBITUARY: Daily Commonwealth Fond du Lac, WI Nov. 14, 1910. "One of the oldest and most respected citizens of Fond du Lac county died Sunday night at 10 o'clock from old age, at the home of his son, William in Ashford, where he had made his home for the past six months. Mr. Berg was born Dec. 21, 1824 in the Province of Luxemburg, Germany. He came to this country in 1848 locating at Buffalo, NY. A few years later he came to Ashford and purchased the farm one-half mile south of the village where they resided until twelve years ago. He is survived by his wife, one sister living in Europe; and eight children, John of Appleton, William on the homestead, Martin of Ashford, Mrs. Michael Wietor of Ashford, Mrs. John Wietor of Merrill, Mrs. Math. Weber of Merton, Mrs. Frank Thelen of Ashford and Mrs. John Brandt of Pewaukee; forty-three grandchildren. Seven children have preceded him in death and one of this brothers died only ten days ago. Funeral services from St. Martin's church and interment in adjoining cemetery." John Berg died of Arterial Sclerosis.
