Mrs. J.E. Merritt, aged 85, sister of F.B. Blanchard of Princeville, died at Lamy, New Mexico yesterday.
She and her daughter, Dr. Elsie Merritt, left California several days previous intending to come to Princeville. A message received dated May 30 was to the effect that Mrs. Merritt was very feeble and it was considered advisable that she and her daughter leave the train at Lamy and not try to pass through the high altitude until the aged lady had grown stronger.
This message was followed closely by another telling of her death.
The news was a great disappointment especially for Mr. Blanchard who had long been anticipating with pleasure the coming of his sister for a visit.
The remains will be brough here tomorrow morning and the funeral is to be held at the Presbyterian church in charge of Rev. John Acheson. Interment will be in Princeville Cemetery.

Princeville Telephone, June 1, 1922.

Transcribed and submitted by Ethel.

Daughter of Willam P. & Mary (Barham) Blanchard, wife of 1) Mirandus B. French, m. Feb 28, 1859, & 2) Benjamin F. Merritt, m. March 7, 1870.
