Joseph Cabeen, 79, formerly prominent in business affairs at Seaton, was found dead in bed this morning at the Merchants' hotel in Aledo, where he had resided for several years.
Mr. Cabeen's health had been failing for some time, but he had had no acute illness recently and had been around the hotel lobby Monday evening. About 10 o'clock this morning Alfred Boostrom, employed by his brother, the hotel manager, David Boostrom, entered Mr. Cabeen's room and discovered that death had occurred during the night.
Dr. V.A. McClanahan of Aledo, Mercer county coroner, arranging today to hold an inquest in the case, said indications were that when the body was found Mr. Cabeen had been dead several hours.
Born near Seaton Jan. 5, 1861, Mr. Cabeen was for many years part owner and manager of the Seaton Telephone exchange, one of the first phone systems in Mercer county. He was also interested, some years ago, in the grain elevator and bank at Seaton. About twenty-five years ago he married Miss Bertha Smith of Aledo, whose death occurred in 1922.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Harriett Sells and Mrs. Edith Griffin, both of Aledo.
