Leon W. Maurer, 91, of Columbus, Ohio, and formerly of Vienna, died April 24, 2004, at First Community Village, Columbus.
He was born in Altoona, Pa., a son of the late Sherwood M. and Irene L. Burkhart Maurer. His wife, Grace H. Lehmann Maurer, preceded him in death on June 5, 1993.
Mr. Maurer was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and retired from the former American Viscose/FMC, Parkersburg, as an industrial engineer. He was active in various Masonic bodies including Calvary Commandery 3, Knights Templar, Jerusalem Chapter 3 R.A.M. and Mountain Lodge 281, F. & A.M. of Pennsylvania. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg.
Survivors include one daughter, Drinda Claire Fohl and husband, Mark, of Westerville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Karen Veley of Gahanna, Ohio, and Barbara Ten Hoeve and husband, Tim, of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Alice Holton of Altoona, Pa.; one brother, Cecil Maurer of Altoona; and two great-granddaughters, Heather and Hannah Veley.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg, with the Rev. George Spransy officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
Memorials are requested to the First Presbyterian Church or the organization of donor's choice.
