Mrs. Arnott Passes Away at Long Beach; Came Out in 1887
Mansfield, Feb. 1—(Special)—Mrs. Janette Arnott, pioneer of South Dakota and former resident of this section of the state, passed away at the home of her daughter in Long Beach. California. Jan. 30 at the age of 81 years. 25 days, according to word received here yesterday.
Mrs. Arnott was a pioneer of South Dakota having come to this state from Wisconsin in 1887. Janette Hamilton was born in Grant county, Wisconsin. December 2, l847 and was united in marriage to Hugh Stevenson in 1863.
Mr. Stevenson died in 1894 and in 1894, Mrs. Stevenson was united in marriage to James T. Arnott of Scatterwood Lake at which place they made their home until 1902 when they moved to Mansfield. Since her husband's death in 1912, Mrs. Arnott has made her home with her children.
Leaves 6 Children
She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters and two sons: Mrs. F. E. Irions of Long Beach. Calif., Mrs. W. E. Baker of Billings, Mont. Mrs. Mary Siebrasse of Mellette. Mrs. W. T. Berndt of Mansfield, John H. Stevenson of Escalon, Calif., and A. R. Stevenson of Billings, Montana.
On account of the severe cold weather here, the remains will be held at Long Beach until April 1, and will then be shipped here and laid to rest in the family lot at Northville.
Mrs. Arnott was a member of the Jewell Rebecca lodge Number 50 at Warner and funeral services will be in charge of that order when the body is brought back for interment.
