Obituary

Edward R. “Ed” Schwindt, 90, La Crosse, Kansas, died Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Ed was born July 10, 1930, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Philip and Antonia (Hoenig) Schwindt. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. He was a mechanic in the electrical industry before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a life member of the VFW, and served as a past commander.

Ed was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Army.

On May 15, 1961, he married Betty Tomecek at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas. She preceded him in death January 9, 1995.

Survivors include: his son, Phillip Schwindt (Laura), La Crosse, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jen Kuhn, Matt Fry, Mary Schwindt, Carlos Schwindt, and Andy Schwindt; and five great grandchildren, Rylee Lopez, Lily Land, Kendrix Joseph, Sapphira Maina, and Quinn Martens-Bobbitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, Carlos Schwindt, Harold Schwindt, Elton Schwindt, Arthur Schwindt, Paul Schwindt, and Wesley Schwindt; and two sisters, Viola Horyna, and Ardell Simmerman.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Monday, November 16, 2020, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Monday, November 16, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Timken, Kansas.
