She was born on March 27, 1928, in Hastings, Neb., to Seth Augustus Hoover and Grace Louree (Upchurch) Hoover.
She married William James Abbott on March 3, 1946, in Hastings. Their marriage was later solemnized in Salt Lake Temple.
Betty was a member of the LDS Church and held many positions throughout the years. She was a certified bowling instructor, and accomplished seamstress and a voracious reader. Betty also enjoyed spending time in the mountains.
She is survived by one son and one daughter, Jim (Debbie) Abbott of Springfield, and Connie (Johnnie) Young of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Alberta Austin of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Ernie Hoover of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Jackson of St. Joseph.
She was preceded in death by three children, Darla Kay Norman, Donald Wesley Abbott and Ronald Lesley Abbott.
Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, St. Joseph. Interment: Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph. Mrs. Abbott will be removed from Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph, to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.
