The mother of 14 children - all of whom lived to adulthood - Margaret Ann Hammer Jones was born December 16, 1859 to Jesse and Elizabeth Grove Hammer in York, Pennsylvania. She married her husband, Emanuel Henry Jones in 1880. In addition to working as a seamstress in their home, Margaret worked tirelessly on the large vegetable farm that she and her husband owned. Margaret, her husband and their youngest child, Martha Washington Jones (1901-1920), all passed away within less than three years of each other and are buried in adjoining plots marked with one headstone.
