W. Doan received a neat little legacy, this week, which we presume will be found pretty handy these hard times. It was from the estate of his grandfather, Abraham Doan, late of Haldimand county, Ontario, who died about a year since. The money was received by express in the form of Canadian bills and bank notes. This is the second legacy Mr. Doan has received recently, but the former one was insignificant in amount.

On Saturday afternoon a number of W. S. Doan's friends assembled at his pleasant little home to pay their respects to the family before they took their departure to McPherson. In the evening the young folks took possession and held undisputed swas (sic) till the clock reminded them of the approach of the Sabbath, when they wished one and all a long farewell and much happiness in their new home........W. S. Doan and family loaded their household goods and started them for their new home in McPherson county to-day. Mr. Doan and family have a host of friends here who will regret their departure.

HOUSE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.

We failed to mention last week the fact that the house of W. S. Doan and family living five miles northwest of Pratt had a close call by lightning. During the storm Saturday night the lightning struck their house tearing the plaster off of two rooms and knocking several of the family insensible.

A daughter-in-law and child who were sitting in the center of the room were badly stunned and did not recover for several days. This was indeed a close call and Mr. Doan considers it a lucky thing that they got out as well as they did.
