Richard Paul Nechanicky (age 84) — born April 3, 1915 in Odessa, Wash. Mr. Nechanicky passed away December 26, 1999 in Spokane, Wash.
He grew up in Odessa and moved to Greenbluff as a young man. He graduated from Mead High School, where he played on the football team.
In 1937, he married Vivian Schaffer.
Survived by son, Robert, of Spokane; daughter, Carol, of Bellevue; sister, Vera, of Greenbluff; brother, Ted, of Lewiston, Idaho; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Vivian Nechanicky (1996) and son, James Nechanicky (1989).
Mr. Nechanicky was a member of the Elks, Lions, Moose and Rotary Clubs, square dancing clubs and other dance clubs. He loved to travel, with Reno and Las Vegas being his favorite pastimes.
After retirement in 1987, he enjoyed baking and canning.
Loved by everyone he touched he was dedicated to his family and made friends easily.
Richard was the owner/operator of Canteen Co. in Spokane for 55 years. What began as a small dream has since survived (with hard work and dedication) and become a family tradition carried on over the years. The teachings of his skills and knowledge are still evident today.
With just the mere mention of his name, Richard Nechanicky; he was a man, he was a husband, he was a father, he was a teacher. Richard Nechanicky will remain in our lives and in our hearts.
Funeral service Thursday, December 30, 1 p.m. in the Alwin Chapel at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe, the Rev. Dorothy C. Riegel officiating. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
