SIEMERS, Vera A.
(Nechanicky) - was born September 5, 1912 and entered into rest on
September 5, 2005 after a long illness. Vera was born to Joseph and Helen Nechanicky, the 11th child of 15, on a wheat ranch near Odessa, WA. Her parents were immigrants from the Czech Republic. She and her large extended family have maintained strong ties throughout the generations. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1931 and moved to Green Bluff, WA, along with her mother, father, brothers, and sisters. The Green Bluff community was concerned that 15 new students would overwhelm the school. Vera was proud to have worked as a switchboard operator for Pacific NW Bell Telephone Company in Colfax and Spokane from the mid 1930's to early 1940's. In 1936 she married the love of her life, Paul Siemers. After living in Spokane for a few years, Vera and Paul moved back to Green Bluff in March 1943 where they became an active part of the community. For over 50 years, she was active in the Green Bluff Grange, Green Bluff Methodist Community Church, and other service organizations. She was an active and equal partner in the family farm business. She loved sharing her excellent cooking talents with family and friends. Her holiday dinners will be warmly remembered. Vera was always the one to provide comfort and care to those in need. Singing, reading, gardening, photography and, most importantly, visiting with family and friends were her treasured avocations. Vera truly loved her Green Bluff home and community. It can be said that she lived a long and good life. Vera is survived by one brother, Ted Nechanicky (Pearl); sons, Terry Siemers, Byron Siemers (Donna); daughter, Carol Blake (Ben); grandchildren, Guy Siemers, Louie Siemers, Paul Blake (Ginger), Julia Gerard (Wayne); great-grandchildren, Jesse Siemers and Duncan Blake. Visitation will be held Friday, September 9th 12pm-5pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Celebration of her life will be at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Cemetery on Saturday, September 10th at 2pm. Pastors Glenn Kennedy and John Southwick will officiate. Burial ceremonies will follow. After the burial, a community celebration for her will be held at the Green Bluff Grange Hall. The family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to Green Bluff United Methodist Church or Green Bluff Grange #300.
