Gladys M. Watkins, age 79, a lifetime resident of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2003. Mrs. Watkins served as a nurse in World War II, and then as a homemaker, where she took great pride in raising her family. Mrs. Watkins was a devoted member for 15 years at the Red Lion Evangelical Free Church. She especially loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren. She loved to cook, and had a special talent for decorating cakes. Mrs. Watkins was also known for her green thumb as well as her creativity, and won several blue ribbons at the Delaware State Fair for her plants and crafts she made. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and canning. She will be forever treasured in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond Evans Watkins and sister Doris E. Dean of Newark, DE; and is survived by 2 sons, Raymond Evans Watkins Jr. and wife Sue of Newark, DE, and Roger F. Watkins and wife Ginny of Newark DE; 1 brother, David W. Dean of Red Lion, DE; and 8 grandchildren: Jeremy, Bethany, Ray, Deanna, Heather, Nate, Gabrielle, and Meredith.
