Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Mass Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at St John Berchman Roman Catholic Church for Riga Leger, 73 the former Rita Menard who died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 2, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. John Berchman Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev Mario P. Romero, pastor of St. John Berchman Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Naomi Broussard.

Rita was both a native and resident of Cankton. She was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Alter Society.

Survivors include three sons, John Erfy Leger and wife Delores of Duson, Malcolm Leger and his wife Beth of Carencro and Michael Leger of Jacksonville. Florida; five daughters, Patricia Savoy and husband Patrick, Cynthia Cormier and husband Gregg all of Cankton, Cinderella Miller and husband Robert of Arnaudville, Veronica Matte an husband Carl and Susan Leger, all of Canton; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erfy Leger; parents, Jules Menard and the former Elodie Martin, both natives of Cankton; one son Joseph C. Leger; one daughter Sandra Leger; one grandchild, Lacey Janea Leger; and by nine brothers and sisters.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (July 3, 2000).
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10 a.m. today(July 3, 2020) to service time Tuesday (July 4, 2000).

Pallbearers will be David Savoy; Shaun Miller and Brandon, Derrick, Dell and Coby Leger; Honorary pallbearers will be Barry, Chad, Shane and Scott Leger.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro is in charge of arrangements.
