George's first wife was Vivian Emily Weyant daughter of Martin Weyant and Jessie M. Stone Weyant. George and Vivian were married on July 1, 1915, and divorced on January 1, 1919. Their daughter Wilda Rita was born on March or Nov. 16, 1917 at Volga, Clayton County, Iowa.

His draft registration of June 5, 1917, Thorpe, Delaware County, IA, lists him as working for his father on the farm, married with one child. He is described as medium height and build, blue eyes, brown hair.

George's second wife was Margaret Thomas who had been married before. Margaret's son Lester Thomas, took the Briggs name.

George was a police officer in Vinton, Benton County, IA, per the 1940 census.

George was farming in the Osceola, Clarke County, IA, area. His brother Charles was working on the same farm. Unfortunately, George had an argument with his brother Charles. Charles fatally shot George and then committed suicide with the same gun on May 2, 1946.
