John was the son of Richard James and Mary Ellen Taylor-McCann. His step-mother, Louisa Matilda "Lou" McCann, is buried in Starr Cemetery. John married Nettie Lou Camp 3 July 1913 in Anderson Co, TX. Their daughters, Martha Doris McCann, Nonie Bell McCann Simpson, Mary Ellen McCann Howell and Ida Lou McCann Evans, are also buried in Garden of Memories. Their son, Elzy G. McCann, is buried in Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, TX. John was residing in Houston at the time of his death there.

Mary Ellen Taylor-McCann is the mother of John William McCann but his mother died about 2 months after giving birth. He was raised by his Step-Mother Louisa Matilda McCann and knew no other mother so I am sure that is why she is listed as his mother in his obituary. (From Sandra Klimeck, 9 September 2018.)
