In 1934, Mr. Blossman, a native of New Orleans and resident of Covington, founded A.R. Blossman Inc., a refrigerator and natural gas range distributorship in St. Tammany Parish.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Blossman used a mixture of liquified petroleum gases, butane and petrolane, to fuel company vehicles. He later bottled the remaining fuel by hand, changed the name to Hydratane and made his first public stock offering of the fuel in 1959 under Blossman Hydrate Gas Inc.
In 1962, he became chairman of the board and major shareholder of Commercial Bank and Trust Co. As chairman, he helped create a group of small business investments and mortgage companies for people in small businesses.
He also helped organize Parish National Bank in Washington Parish and obtained controlling interest in Central Progressive Bank in Tangipahoa Parish.
In 1972, he was instrumental in creating St. Tammany's first parishwide banking system.
Mr. Blossman is listed in Who's Who in America and was named Citizen of the Year by the Covington Lion's Club.
