Mrs. Mary E. Collins, of Minneapolis, Minn., died Saturday,
August 18, 2007 in Minnesota. She was born September 13, 1923, in Brumley, Mo., a daughter of C.R. (Ted) and Mabel C. Foster Hawkins.
She graduated from Brumley High School and joined the Cadet
Nurse Corps during World War II. She received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri, Columbia and degree of Master in Nursing Administration from Washington University, St. Louis. Her
nursing career was with the Veterans Administration, having served in hospitals throughout the United States. She was Chief Nurse at the Veterans Administration in Columbia, Mo., Portland Ore., and St. Cloud, Minn. Following retirement, she was a volunteer at a shelter for abused women for many years.
She was a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church where she volunteered weekly.
Survivors include: one daughter, Katherine Bauer (husband)
Darvin; two grandchildren, Matthew Steuart (wife) Amy and Kelly Steuart (Jacob England) all of Minnesota; one sister, Judy Hawkins of Jefferson City; and one niece, Suzanne Woods of New York City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Teddy J. Woods and Vivian Sue Hawkins; one brother, Robert Taggart Hawkins.
Funeral services were held at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 22, with interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
