Former Area Businessman Dies

Henry V. Schohl, Jr., 66 of Spring Lake, Michigan died January 15, 1966 at North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven, Michigan. Mr. Schohl was born September 29, 1929 in Big Rapids, Michigan, the son of Henry V. Sr. and Charlotte A. (Van Orman) Schohl. He owned and operated Valentine's Jewelry in Big Rapids in the 1960s, moving to Spring Lake where he was self-employed as a watch maker in his home. He was a member of the American Watchmakers institute. Hank invented and patented the Schohl Crystal Cutter, which is used for making watch crystals and sold it through his company, Schohl Machine, Inc., of Spring Lake.

He is survived by his wife Glenda; his three sons, Gerald (Betty) Schohl, of Knoxville TN, Mark (Brenda) Schohl of Fruitport, Michigan, and Richard (Brenda) Schohl of Spring Lake; three daughters, Cynthia (Phillip) Newell and Nancy (Bob) Campbell of Grand Haven, and Nicole of Spring Lake; eleven grandchildren; three brothers, Franklin (Joann) Schohl of Muskegon, Michigan, Thomas (Helen) Schohl of Sebring Florida, and Richard Schohl of Clearwater Florida; one step-brother, Jack (Fay) Randall of Barryton, Michigan; six sisters, Shirley Buist, Patricia (Al) Mosher and Maria (Don) Cross all of Big Rapids, Eileen (John) Brady of Chase, Michigan, Charlene Ferguson of Pierson, Michigan, and Christina (Mike) Freeland of Traverse City, Michigan; one brother-in-law Herbert Elliott of Paris, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elva (Freiberg) Schohl, his step-father, Mark Randall, a sister, Violet Elliott and a nephew, Daniel Schohl. Cremation took place and a memorial service for the family was January 20th in Grand Haven.

Funeral arrangements are being made through Ever Rest Funeral Home of Muskegon.
