Helen Maxine Willis, 77, of 100 W. Walnut St. died at 3 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 1998, at her home.

Born Sept. 2, 1920, in Minier to Benjamin and Opal McIntire Wheat, she married Nelson M. Willis on Feb. 20, 1937, in Delavan. He died May 7, 1973, in San Jose.

One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Dale of Elwood; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Carol) Christopher of San Jose and Mrs. Robert (Merla) Vonderheide of Delavan; two brothers, Russell Wheat of San Jose and George Wheat of Forest City; four sisters, Esther Wheat of San Jose, Betty Steinbeck of Tremont, Dorothy Mitchell of Melbourne, Florida and Marcella Brems of Crestwood, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of San Jose Baptist Church, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. James Petty will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Styninger Funeral Home in San Jose and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, San Jose.
