Mrs. Dell Bookhardt, 89, of 1191 Dantzler St. NE, Orangeburg, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Orangeburg Lutheran Church, with Pastor Garry White officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. She was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late David McIver Brandenburg and the late Angie Holman Brandenburg. She was retired from Southern Bell as a telephone operator. A member of Orangeburg Lutheran Church, she was the widow of Cecil A. Bookhardt and was preceded in death by two brothers, Keitt Brandenburg and Davis Brandenburg, and a sister, Mary Edith Brandenburg. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Morgan of Columbia; a son, Andrew Bookhardt of the Jamison community; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Morgan of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Betty Brandenburg and Shirley Brandenburg, both of Elloree; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at her residence. Memorials may be made to Orangeburg Lutheran Church, 610 Ellis Ave., Orangeburg, SC 29115.
