Jesse had often told his family that he was Cajun before Cajun was cool. He had a wonderful outgoing way of connecting with everyone around him, loved his country, his large extended family, the song “You Are My Sunshine”, and deviled eggs.
He was a long time faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pensacola, Florida and then became a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Rockwall, Texas.
Jesse left Louisiana at age 17 to join The United States Air Force and was promptly sent to Japan. His Air Force career also took him to Turkey, Italy, Germany, Nebraska, Maine, North Dakota, and Colorado. After 20 years, he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant, and then continued serving his country in Civil Service for another 20 years in Colorado and Germany.
He was preceded in death by many members of his large family, including his cherished mother, Pearl and father Jesse Sr., his first wife Helga Hofmeier Edmonds, his brother Eastwood Edmonds, sister Nelma Olivier and uncle Adam “Brother” Johnson.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane Edmonds Lang and Cindy Edmonds Lunsford (Steve), his grandchildren, Stephen Lang (Sally), Jessica Lunsford and Kurt Lunsford (Marybeth) and one great grandson Thomas Lunsford.
He also leaves behind his loving precious wife of 22 years, Joan Stell Jones Edmonds, with whom he happily spent his retirement years enjoying time with family and friends while traveling. Joan’s two children Alyssa Jones Gisler (Erik) and Brandon Jones (Kellie), his grandchildren Grant Gisler (Kelsey), Pierce Gisler, Keaton, Payton and Caleb Jones.
Jesse had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and always looked forward to the Edmonds Christmas party with them and their families, Linda, Kathy, Cindy, Prissy, Darryl, Stephanie, Agnes, Gene, Faye, Roy, and the late Anna Pearl - he loved you all.
Because of COVID-19, the family will have a come and go visitation on Saturaday April 25, 2020 from 6-8 pm followed with a private interment at DFW National Cemetery. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at DFW National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the Terrell Senior Center located at 115 N. Adelaide St. Terrell, TX 75160. When making this donation please make checks out to Terrell Senior Center.
