Samuel A. Cornett was the son of Joseph Enoch Cornett and Sarah Brown. He was the grandson of William Cornett and Mary Everage. Samuel served in the Civil War in the 13th Kentucky Carvery of the Confederate Army which was known as Caudill’s Army. Samuel was married four times. His first marriage was to Louraney Whitaker, daughter of Esquire Whitaker and Harriett Hagans about 1861 in Letcher Co. Louraney’s FAG number is 157150693.

After the death of Raney, Samuel married a second time to Susannah Shepherd born 1858 on 3-25-1877 in Letcher Co. Note: On the son Ira’s death certificate, someone gives his mother’s name as Susie Elkins?? Susannah’s FAG number is 157150675.

Samuel had a third marriage to Nan Ingle on 3-23-1886 in Letcher Co. It is not known if they had any children.
He married a fourth time to Alcyan Couch around 1887. Alcy's parentage is unknown. She was raised by her uncle, Samuel Couch and his wife, Emeline Wooton. They lived at first in Letcher Co. and then moved to Perry Co. where they died.
