Charles Michael Sykes, known as Mike, was born January 19, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William Boyd Sykes and Olar A. (Rallans) Sykes. He passed away Monday, April 20, 2020 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Mike grew up in El Reno and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in 1961. He joined the United States Army in December of 1962 and was an 82nd Airborne Division combat veteran in the Dominican Republic in 1965, and finished his military service in 1965.
On November 23, 1968 he married Myrtle Bingham in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and they made their home in El Reno for many years. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together until her passing in January 2019.
In 1966, Mike began working for the Rock Island Railroad working his way up to conductor. In 1989 his work moved them to Chickasha and he retired with Union Pacific Railroad after 35 years.
He liked to fish a lot and since around 2010 he was a photographer for Find A Grave.
Mike was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Myrtle; three brothers, Harold, Floyd and Danny Sykes; and a sister, Bobbie Heath.
Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home located in Chickasha Oklahoma.
