Myrtle R. Sykes, 80, of Chickasha passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 in Chickasha. Myrtle (Mert) R. (Bingham) Sykes was born October 6, 1938 in El Reno, Oklahoma to Randolph Bingham and Mabel (Cox) Bingham.

Myrtle grew up and graduated high school in El Reno. She went to a vocational school and received her certification to be a hairstylist.

On November 23, 1966, she married Mike Sykes in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and they were married over 50 years. They lived in El Reno for many years where she worked as a hairstylist. In 1989, Mike's work as a railroader brought them to Chickasha, Myrtle took in many stray cats and found homes or shelters for many. She worked through the years as an activist and contributor to animal welfare.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jerald Webb. Survivors include her husband, Mike, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Madalyn of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Robert Case of Wildomar, California; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Wendy Sykes; sister Juanita Muller of Lexington, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, and other extended family and friends.

Graveside services for Myrtle were held January 11, 2019 in El Reno Cemetery, El Reno, Oklahoma. Services were under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home located in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
