John Edel, forty-seven years old, died suddenly at his home here last Thursday night. He had been up and about as usual that day and had been to town during the evening. A heart attack after his return home caused his death soon after 11:00 p.m.
John Ellis Edel, father of fourteen children, three of whom are in the armed forces, was born in Bremen Feb. 17, 1897 [sic], and had spent his entire life in this community. He was employed by Schlosser Brothers for many years but had been more recently employed at the South Bend airport. He was married in 1916 to Inez Frenger. Surviving are the widow, his father Lawrence Edel, and the following children:
Pfc. John Robert Edel, Fort Sill, Okla.; Mrs. Jane Geib, Bremen; Armond Edel, South Bend; Pfc. Dale Edel, in India; Loma Edel, Bremen; Mrs. Bethel Huber, Bremen; Pvt. Stanley Edel, Camp Haan, Calif.; and Charlotte, Alma Jean, Lawrence Dean, Joan, Vivian, Mary and Marcia, at home. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Ethel Newhouse, Kenosha, Wis., and Mrs. Edith Fliefeld, Willoughby, Ohio, and a brother Walter Edel, of Bremen, also survive.
Funeral Services were held Monday in Grace United Brethren church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. E. C. Reidenbach, and the local fire department of which Mr. Edel had long been a member. The fireman's service was conducted by Raymond Coons of Michigan City, chaplain of the Indiana Fireman's Association. Burial was in the Bremen cemetery.
