Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Lawrence Edel, ninety years old, who died Saturday afternoon, June 21, in his home at 403 North Whitlock street. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Sept. 16, 1861, the son of John and Liza Edel, Mr. Edel had spent most of his years in Bremen. In 1897 he was married to Phyloma Ellis, who died Feb. 18, 1937. His granddaughter, now Mr. R. John Snyder, who has lived with him since her childhood, remained with him and made a home for him Mrs. Edel's death.
For a number of years Mr. Edel was with a bridge construction outfit in the west,. he had been a member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge for more than fifty years and also belonged to the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. One step daughter, Mrs. Ethel Newhouse of Kenosha, Wis., survives. Three sons, John, Armond, and Walter, preceded their father in death. He leaves twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.
Rev. C. L. Hendrix of Grace Evangelical United Brethren church conducted the funeral services in the Glant Chapel Tuesday afternoon and Bremen Lodge, No. 414, F & A. M., gave it burial rites at the grave in Bremen cemetery.
