He was married to Emily Nancy Powell on January 24, 1885 who preceded him in death September 23, 1909. To this union six children were born, four of whom preceded him in death.
He was converted in his early twenties and united with the Buck Grove Baptist Church, later moving his membership to New Brandenburg Baptist Church, where he remained a member.
He is survived by one son, Dave of Brandenburg and one daughter, Agnes Foushee also of Brandenburg; 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Edward T. (Margaret) Hiner of Louisville, Kentucky, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his going.
He spent his entire life in the community near Brandenburg. "Uncle Crabe" had been in ill health for a number of years and many, many times expressed his desire for the Lord to call him home where there would be no more suffering. But he bore his suffering patiently, never to ill to greet his friends and loved ones with a smile when they came to visit.
Funeral services were held Thursday at New Brandenburg Baptist Church conducted by Rev. E.B. Stewart, pastor and Rev. D.E. Jones of South Jefferson Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Messrs. Garland, Paul, David, Robert, James and Gilbert Benham and William Foushee.
