Final rites were conducted on Wednesday, March 3, 1971 at 2 p.m. at the Bogue Chitto Baptist Church of Mt. Hermon, La. for Mrs. Alford, the former Emma R. Miller, daughter of the late Needam and Fannie Miller.

Mrs. Alford was born August 8, 1885, being almost 86 years of age when she expired after a lengthy illness of several years. She was a long time resident of Mt. Hermon, La. She passed away at Riverside Medical Center on March 1, 1971 on Monday at 10:40 p.m. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters Fannie Lelia Mae and Frankie L. Alford R.N. and is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wiley B. Alford, 3 sons, Berchel of Kentwood, La., Ollie Jim, and Jeptha, both of Mt. Hermon, La.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Shelton (Allie) Brick [sic—should be Brock] and Mrs. Bosia (Blanche) Brock both of New Orleans, La., 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, also six brothers.

…. Interment was in the church cemetery. Capp's Funeral Home of Tylertown, Miss, directed the final rites. Pallbearers were Warren Mayley, Ralph and Jerry Brock, Jack Frabbiele, Downey Miller, and Jewell Simmons
