Dorothy Myers, 90, died in a local hospital, Friday, August 03, 2007. A funeral service, with Brother Jack Ridlehoover and Brother Stan Allcorn officiating, will be held Monday, August 6 at 10:00 am. The family will receive guests on Sunday, August 5 from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. The service and the visitation will be at the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Dorothy was born to E.G. and Callie Wilcox on November 25, 1916, in Brownwood, Texas. She spent her first seventeen years in Recife, Brazil, where her parents were Baptist Missionaries. At age seventeen, she began her college education at Howard Payne College where she earned a BA degree. It was a Howard Payne that she met a young ministerial student, Charles Myers. After Dorothy and Charles married, they both went on to Southwestern Theological Seminary where Dorothy earned a Master's Degree in religious education. Dorothy and Charles were pastor and pastor's wife in several Baptist churches in East Texas and in Houston. In 1957, Charles accepted the job as the first Chaplain of Hendrick Memorial Hospital and the family moved to Abilene from Houston. Dorothy began her teaching career and taught in AISD at Houston Elementary and Jane Long Elementary. She retired in 1982.

During Charles' work as Chaplain, he and Dorothy were the pastor and pastor's wife at Wingate Baptist Church for 42 years. In all of their churches, Dorothy served as the pianist or organist and was an integral part of all music ministries of the churches. At the time of her death, Dorothy was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Dorothy was a good and faithful servant.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Ed, and his wife, Kris, of Abilene; three sisters and their husbands, Juanita and Charles Dickson of Austin; Lorene and James Vermillion of Stamford; Trudie and Rich Jackson of San Angelo; and nine nieces and nephews, Helen Hastings of Austin; Everett Vermillion of Millersview; Carole Thorsrud of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Susan Waugh of Beeville; Janet McGinn of Perland; Ernest Vermillion of Stamford; Dorothy Jo Anderson of Stamford; Richard Jackson of Celeste; and Vickie Lynn Davis of Ozona.

Pallbearers will be Everett Vermillion, Ernest Vermillion, Richard Jackson, Ray Waugh, John Hastings and Bert Simpson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Vermillion, Charles Dickson, Rich Jackson and Ben Bentley.

The family request that instead of flowers, donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care.
