Joanne Elaine Hendricks passed into the arms of Jesus March 8, 2020 at Hinds Hospice Home in Fresno, California following a series of strokes. She was able to celebrate her 68th birthday on February 28th. Joanne Hendricks was born February 28, 1952 in Pierre, SD to Herman A. and Alice C. Hendricks.

She received her first airplane ride when B.J. Valburg flew Alice and Joanne home from the hospital as roads were blocked due to a snow storm. Herman made a landing strip in the pasture with his caterpillar.

Joanne attended Williams Creek country school, graduated from Vivian High School and Black Hills State College and became a teacher. She taught at the Vivian Elementary School, taught at a private kindergarten in Santa Clara, California, and was educational director of the San Jose Family Shelter for many years.

She loved children and they loved her in return. Joanne worked diligently for years at Hope Lutheran in Santa Clara California. She was a fan of the women’s basketball team at Stanford University and attended many of those games.

Joanne was preceded in death by her father Herman, her mother Alice, her brother Bud, and her brother-in-law Ken Knutson.

She is survived by sisters Kay Sanderson (Terry) Sioux Falls, SD and Karla Knutson Dos Palos, CA, sister-in-law Dianne Hendricks Booth Vivian, SD, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, LaVada Terrell, from Hope Lutheran.

Memorial service: Hope Lutheran,

and a
Celebration of Life service at a later date,
Vivian Lutheran Church, Vivian SD.
Burial: Vivian Cemetery.
