Darlene is survived by her sister, Marie B. Eckroth; brother, Robert D. Black Sr. and wife Elaine; daughter, Ruth and husband Robert Broome; daughter, Linda and husband Phillip Resseguie; and son, Harry E. Martenas Jr. She is also survived by two grandsons: Travis Broome and wife Anna, and Jonathan Broome; three granddaughters: Rebecca Broome, Leanna and husband Jason Castello, Jamie and husband Harry Arsenyevictz; and five great-grandchildren.
Darlene was an excellent student (with beautiful handwriting) who graduated early from Bloomsburg High School. She was a farmer’s wife, bookkeeper, homemaker, gardener, and accomplished seamstress. She also worked at various times for the Millville School District, Max Starr, and L&K True Value Hardware.
She was a lifelong member of Kitchens United Methodist Church, a 4-H leader, and a volunteer at the Orangeville Food Bank. She appreciated precision, order, and a clever joke. Seemingly quiet and reserved, she would correct your spelling, quash your hyperbole, and was quick with a quip. She enjoyed solving word puzzles and reading mysteries and remained a bit of an enigma to those around her. Darlene loved her husband, her children and her grandchildren, and they returned that love. She will be missed.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Bunnell Funeral Home, 179 E. Main St., Millville, with Pastor Ryan Reigh officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Rohrsburg Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bunnell Funeral Home Inc., Millville.
Family and friends may send online condolences to bunnellfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Darlene’s memory to Kitchens United Methodist Church, c/o Beverly Ruotolo, 23 Sandy Stone Drive, Orangeville, PA 17859.
