Constance "Connie" Mae Newlin, 65, died Friday, February 20, 1998 at 2:36 a.m. at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, N.J.

Born in South Philly, Connie resided in Philadelphia until moving to West Cape May, New Jersey in May of 1996. She was the youngest child of the late Aubrey Raymond and Agnes Letitia Newlin. She was predeceased by brothers Ralph and Aubrey and sister Doris.

In 1991, Connie retired from the City of Philadelphia's Coordinating Office of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, where she was employed as a secretary to the Director. She was instrumental in the publication of that department's monthly newsletter. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School and earned certificates of achievement from various courses offered by IBM, which enhanced her job performance and career.

Connie loved to travel and visited many places, both foreign and domestic. She enjoyed her independence and liked being alone. She especially loved the early morning hours--quiet time to enjoy her coffee and decipher the cryptograms and crossword puzzles--a task at which she excelled.

She had a quiet aura and serene presence which could explode in laughter, surprise, bewilderment and amazement depending upon the nature of the moment. She enjoyed being the baby of the family and was taken under her great-grandmother's wing up to the age of 13. Her youthful days were often shared with her girlfriends--oh! how she loved to reflect on those times of love, mischief and laughter.

Connie bravely accepted the serious nature of her illness and was prepared to leave when God called. She was petite in stature but mighty in presence.

She leaves to mourn her loss, sisters Clara and Katherine, sister-in-law Syretha, brothers-in-law Felix and Clyde, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

We will miss you dear, sweet Connie Mae,
In the quiet of night and the brightness of day
You are gone from our presence and now live above,
So we'll cherish your memory and cling to your love.
