Doris Shirley Newlin Jacobs, daughter of the former Agnes Carter of Dover, Delaware and the late Aubrey R. Newlin, Sr. of Philadelphia, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 14, 1930.

She attended the local public schools in the city of her birth. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School For Girls in 1948, followed by an accredited school of nursing and received her L.P.N.

Also during this period she was united with Christ and ultimately was confirmed at the Church of St. Simon the Cyrenian in the year 1948.

After two years of employment at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia, she then became the nurse-receptionist for the late Dr. Joseph Pescatore of Philadelphia where she remained for the next 16 years giving of her kind and generous service to many.

On September 23, 1967 the bond of love was sealed in the union of marriage to Clyde E. Jacobs, of Clarkton, North Carolina. During her married years, Doris gave unslefishly, her love and devotion and time to her dear husband, members of her family and many friends who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Making a change in her career after attending the I.B.M. School in Philadelphia, Doris went on to become a computer operator at the Provident National Bank. Upon leaving the employ of P.N.B. she established her own business in the same capacity at Audobon, New Jersey for a short period of time, thencefore, becoming a housewife.

Our dear Doris will always be remembered by her loved ones for her outgoing ways and humorous disposition. She could smile and laugh in the most serious situations, therefore, lending great moral support to others when needed. She will be greatly and lovingly missed by her kind and devoted husband; her mother, Agnes Newlin; brother, Aubrey; three sisters, Clara, Katherine and Constance, and many aunts, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and a multitude of friends.
