Lester Wirey died Friday
Lester Wirey, 76, West Minister Village, Greenwood, died Friday at the healthcare center.
A former resident of Franklin, Wirey had retired from the Franklin Fire Department after 25 years in 1965. He had served as assistant fire chief from 1956 to 1960.
Born Sept. 26, 1902 in Bartholomew County, Wirey was the son of Charles and Henrietta (Goetz) Wirey. He married Elizabeth Lee in 1924.
Wirey was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge and the Kansas Community Methodist Church, formerly at Camp Atterbury.
Services will be held Monday, 2:30 p.m. at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home. Rev. Glen O'Dell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include his wife; one brother, James Wirey, Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Miller and Mrs. Edelle Burton, both of Columbus. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
