Barintha Carrington, daughter of Joel Carrington and Almira Miles, was born about 1818 (probably in Hinckley Township, Cuyahoga County) Ohio.

Her father, Joel Carrington, and his (unnamed wife) and son Mark had traveled 1816-1817 by oxteam from Genesee County, New York, and settled in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Mark's mother died en route to Ohio.
Joel married second Almira Miles 23 October, 1817 in Brecksville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Source: Ohio State Marriages. Children Barintha (b. about 1818), Miles (b. 1822), and Lydia (b. about 1828) were added to the family in Ohio. In 1830, Joel and family were on the move westward again, this time to Michigan Territory.

Barintha's name spelling variations include: Berintha, Birintha, Berinthe, Brintha, Brinthe, Brinting, and Barisatha.

Barintha married two known times:
She first married Thompson Ashby (1801-1851), at an unknown date and place. She was his third wife.
Thompson and Barintha's family had at least eight children: (seven in the 1850 Census, see below); and Betsy Ann b. 1851(?).

The 1850 US Census enumerated 15 Sept, 1850, for Michillimackinac County (now Emmet County) Michigan, shows nine persons in the Thompson Ashby household:
Thompson Ashby, 49, M, Farmer, born in Ohio
Berintha Ashby, 33, F, born in Ohio
Almira Ashby, 12, F, born in Michigan
Catharine Ashby, 11, F, born in Michigan
Mary Ann Ashby, 9, F, born in Michigan
Sarah Ashby, 5, F, born in Wisconsin
Joel C. Ashby, 4, M, born in Wisconsin
Helen Ashby, 2, F, born in Wisconsin
Catharine Ashby, 8/12, F, born in Michigan

A family oral tradition indicates that Thompson was killed by a run-away horse in Ahnapee (now Algoma, Kewaunee County), Wisconsin, when his son Joel C. Ashby was five or six years old [which would make it about 1851]. Source: "Blessed with this family!" page 204.

The widow Barintha Carrington Ashby married second, Thomas H. Bacon, 12 May, 1860. Source: Wisconsin, County Marriages, 1836-1911. Thomas Bacon died 8 May, 1861, being the first recorded murder victim in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, leaving a wife and seven-month-old daughter. Source: the Algoma Record Herald, 19 August, 1910.

The 1870 US Census enumerated 19 July, 1870, for Baileys Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin, shows 4 persons in the Berinthe Bacon household:
Berinthe Bacon, 48, F, W, keeping house, born in Ohio
Lois Bacon, 10, F, W, born in Wisconsin
Margaret Bacon, 9, F, W, born in Wisconsin
Henry Bacon, 6, M, W, born in Wisconsin [note: this Henry appears to actually be Henry Griffin, son of Darius Griffin and wife Ann. See "Blessed with this family!" p.212: 1870 and 1880 Census excerpts from Baileys Harbor, WI]

The 1880 US Census enumerated 2 and 3 June, 1880, for Baileys Harbor, Door County, Wisconsin, shows 4 persons in the Berintha Bacon household, including two sons and a grandson.

Her death was reported in the (weekly) Sturgeon Bay "Door County Advocate" 23 Feb, 1882 under Bailey's Harbor, correcting an erroneous report from 16 Feb, 1882. So she probably died early Feb, 1882, and likely is in the Baileys Harbor, Door County, WI cemetery. Thanks to Dee (contributer 47679272) for the newspaper death contribution.
