Harry was born June 16, 1928, in Mitchell, Neb., son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Deines) Schlager and the 14th of 17 children. He grew up and attended school in Hawk Springs.
Harry entered the Army/Air Force in 1947. He married Lorraine (Lebsack) in 1952. He was a skilled mechanic and avid gardener.
Harry is survived by his son, Harry Schlager Jr. of North Hills, Calif.; granddaughter, Brittany Schlager of Torrington; sister, Wilma Ward of Puyallup, Wash.; brothers, William Schlager of Torrington and Lawrence Schlager (Jenette) of Aurora, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Lorraine Schlager; son, Mark C. Schlager; eight brothers; and five sisters.
