Torrington, Wyo.--Elizabeth Schlager, aged 91, of Torrington, passed away January 18 1982 at the Goshen County Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born at Neu Denhoff, Russia on April 23, 1890, the daughter of John and Ellizabeth (Kaiser) Deines. She came to the United States at age 17 to live with her sister in Burlington, Iowa. She Jacob P. Schlager at Windsor, Colorado on July 15, 1908. Mr. Schlager was a railroader in earlier years and later farmed for many years. The family lived at Windsor, Co.; Mitchell, Nebr.; Hawk Springs, Wyo.; and made their home in Torrington in 1945. Mr. Schlager died in 1964. Eight out of eleven sons served in various branches of the Armed Forces in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam.
She is survived by seven sons, Walter of Casper, Wyoming, Victor of El Cerrito, California, Ruben of The Dalles, Oregon, Robert of Pierce, Colorado, Harry and William both of Torrington, and Lawrence of Aurora, Colorado; six daughters, Mrs. Pauline Helzer of Casper, Wyoming, Mrs. John (Frieda) Debus of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Mrs. Rose Schwartz of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. John (Hilda) Heinrich of Chadron, Nebraska, Mrs. Charles (Wilma) Ward of Lingle, Wyoming; 56 grandchildren; 91 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren. In addition to her huband, she was preceded in death by four sons, two brothers and eight sisters.
Services will be held at First United Church of Christ at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1982. Internment was in Valley View Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Goshen County Memorial Nursing Home or the First United Church of Christ.
