WILLIAM SMALL, of Edgegrove, died in the Lancaster Hospital, Thursday, where he had gone for treatment for kidney trouble. He was aged about 75 years.

Mr. Small was born in Conewago township, and was a son of John and Catharine Small.

He is survived by a widow, who before marriage was Miss Emma Nies, of York County; two sisters, Mrs. William Poist, of McSherrystown and Miss Jane Small, Edgegrove; two brothers, John J. Small, McSherrystown, and Frank Small, Gettysburg: also six sons and one daughter, Miss Edith Small, at home; Robert, of Chicago; Charles, of Harrisburg; Morris, in the U. S. Navy; Harry at home, Walter and Norman, of Bittinger.

The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted August 19, 1862, in company K, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, as a private the regiment being known as Anderson's Cavalry. He was advanced to a Corporal April 1,1864, and was honorably discharged June 12, 1865.

Mr. Small lost a leg in the service.

Funeral Monday, August 26, with a requiem mass in Conewago Chapel at 9 a.m., Rev. Germanus Kohl, officiating. Interment on the family lot in the cemetery adjoining the chapel.

WILLIAM SMALL, the son of John S. & Catherine (McClain) Small, in 1860 he was a miller living in Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 9" tall and had light hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg August 19, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Carlisle August 22 as a private with Co. E, 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry (160th Pa). On April 1, 1864, he transferred to Co. K and promoted to corporal and, on December 20, was detached to duty at Wauhatchie, Tennessee. He honorably discharged with his company June 21, 1865, at which time he paid $29.40 to keep his sidearm and accoutrements.

He married Emma Nace or Neiss and fathered Robert H. (b. 09/??/77), Charles (b. 11/??/79), Morris or Maurice (b. 12/??/81), William Henry "Harry" (b. 04/??/85), Edith J. (b. 01/??/93), Walter, and Norman F. (b. 07/??/95). In 1880 - 1890, he lived in Conewago Township, Adams County, but died at Lancaster Hospital from "uremia due to chronic Bright's disease."
