Alice Barton, age 101, of Russellville, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019, at Brookdale Assisted Living Russellville. She was born May 2, 1918, in the Gravel Hill community, one of seven children to the late Lon and Verlin (Kendrick) Bowden. She grew up on Crow Mountain and attended schools in Russellville.

She was a long time member of Russellville First Assembly of God. She was an avid reader, enjoyed word search puzzles and playing dominoes. She made beautiful quilts and crocheted afghans. Until they retired, Alice worked alongside her husband Ottis “Dee” Barton on their farm with cattle and two chicken houses. They always grew a big garden which they shared with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and at holidays it was hard to wait for the apple, cherry and chocolate pies to be served.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dee Barton; one brother, Ernest Bowden; five sisters, Creola Jackson, Pauline Bowen, Mildred Maggard, Helen Hurtt and Lonnie Ruth Vick; a daughter-in-law, Diana Barton and granddaughter-in-law, Sumi Barton.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, E J and Glenda Barton, Billy and Carole Barton and Ottis Barton, all of Russellville; seven grandchildren, Mark Barton of Maumelle, Becky Dalton of Little Rock, Allen Barton (Jill) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Shelley Clark (Mark) of Mustang, Oklahoma, Steve Barton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Angela Campbell (Barry) and Tanya Moody (Ron) of Russellville; 13 great-grandchildren eight great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Granny Barton will be greatly missed by her family.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Mike Norberg, and the Rev. Ronnie Morris. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be Alice’s grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m., until service time in the chapel.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all of the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living for taking such great care of Alice while she lived there, and to Kindred Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her the last weeks of her life. She loved you all.
