Rev. Donald E. Bruington, age 81, of Hardinsburg, KY passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Norton Hospital Downtown in Louisville, KY.
Don was born October 15, 1937, son of the late Jesse Alfred and Mary Washington Bandy Bruington. His loving wife of 57 years, Myrna Lois Bruington; sisters, Lucy Horsley and Mary Lee Hart; and brothers, William, McAdoo, and Jesse Bruington also preceded him in death.
Don became a licensed minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1977 and ordained by the Leitchfield Presbytery in 1979. He loved evangelism and that love was shared with his serving as stated supply or pastor of the following churches: Mt. Olive, Garfield, Clifton Mills, Mt. Vernon, Coyle, Freedom, Mt. Pleasant, Garfield, and Oak Forest. Don worked in the Petroleum business from 1947 to 1975, carried the mail out of the Garfield Post Office, loved to fish, and worked for Valor Oil in Bowling Green, KY for 10 years. Don was also a proud Mason and Republican.
He is survived by his three children, Richard (Darlene) Bruington of Bowling Green, KY, Tammy Walters of Cecilia, KY, and LaDonna (Robert) Paulson of Irvington; sisters, Nancy Wheatley and Phyllis Flood both of Hardinsburg; four grandchildren: Jon and David Bruington, Shawn Walters, and Rayanna Duncan; three great-grandchildren, Blair, Harper, and Oliver; and granddog, Chloe.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019 at 3:30 PM EDT at the Freedom Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Freedom Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 2:00 – 9:00 PM EDT and Sunday, September 22 from 12:00 – 2:30 PM from the Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Irvington.
