JOSEPH HILTY IS FOUND DEAD SUNDAY MORNING.

Funeral Wednesday for Monroe Township Farmer, 60 Joseph Hilty, 60, widely known Monroe Township farmer living four miles north of Berne, died in his home at 6:00 a.m. Sunday from a heart attack. Mr. Hilty was found dead by his wife when she returned to the house after the morning's milking, in which she assisted. He was still in bed when she returned from the barn and when his wife entered the bedroom she found him dead.

When she had left the house earlier in the morning he appeared to be as usual. Mr. Hilty had not been well for two years, suffering with a heart ailment, and he had been unable to do any work at all the past ten days. However, he was up and around on Saturday. He had experienced some heart trouble for the last 39 years.

Born in Monroe Township, August 23, 1895, Hilty was a lifelong resident of this community. He was married Dec. 13, 1917, to Anna Schwartz. She survives, together with the following children: Andrew Hilty and Joseph Hilty, both of Monroe Route 1; Elmer Hilty, at home; Mrs. Jacob D. (Anna) Schwartz, Mrs. Jacob R. (Lydia) Schwartz, Mrs. Enos (Maryanne) Girod, Mrs. Neal (Barbara) Troyer, all of Monroe Route 1; Mrs. Jacob (Amanda) Shetler, Berne R. R.; Mrs. Jacob D. J. (Emma) Schwartz, Berne R.R. and Mrs. Sam (Lavina) Shetler and Malinda Hlty, both at home. There are 38 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Peter, John, Jacob, Sam, and Chris Hilty and Elizabeth, Mrs. C. C. Schwartz, Mrs. Menno D. Schwartz, Mrs. Jacob L. Schwartz and Mrs. Henry Schwartz. Two brothers, preceded in death.

The funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hilty home, with Rev. Amos Graber of Nappanee officiating. Burial will be in Schwartz Cemetery. The body was returned from the Yager Funeral Home to the residence four miles north of Berne and one-half mile east of U. S. Highway 27. Mr. Hilty was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
