Bishop Sam Hilty
Bishop Sam Hilty, 79, route 2, Geneva, died Monday evening at the Caylor-Nickel Hospital, Bluffton.
Born August 6, 1902, in Berne, he was the son of Joe and Hannah P. Schwartz-Hilty. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
After the first wife, the former Amanda Coblentz, died July 8, 1968, Bishop Hilty married the former Ida J. Miller August 24, 1969, and she survives.
Also surviving are seven sons, Jake S. and Sam S., both of Seymour, Missouri; Dan S. and Joe S., both of route 2, Geneva; Reuben S., John S. and Melvin S., all of Bryant; four daughters; Mrs. Levi J. (Mary) Shetler, route 1, Monroe; Mrs. Levi K. (Anna) Schwartz, route 2, Geneva; Mrs. Jacob P. (Maggie) Schwartz, and Mrs. Chris Y. (Saloma) Schwartz, both of Seymour, Missouri; a step-daughter, Mrs. Menno V. (Edna) Eicher, route 2, Geneva; two step-sons, Dan D. Petersheim, Apple Creek, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Maggie) Schwartz, Seymour, Missouri, and Mrs. Henry E. (Barbara) Schwartz, route 2, Geneva; two brothers, Chris H. Hilty, route 1, Berne, and Jake Hilty, route 2, Geneva; 133 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.
