John C. Adams, 20, and Hattie D. Shroyer, 16, with consent by father, John Shroyer, were married August 6, 1881 in Nodaway County, Missouri. (Source: Marriage License)
========================
Hattie Dell Shroyer was born at Keithsburg, Illinois, November 28, 1864, and departed this life October 4, 1944, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 6 days.
When a young girl she moved with her parents to Hopkins, Missouri. On August 6, 1881, she was united in marriage to Samuel C. Adams, and to this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are still living.
In 1881 she moved with her husband to a homestead in Lincoln County, Kansas, where she remained to prove up their claim. Fifty-six years ago she again moved with her family to Nuckolls county (sic) where she remained until her death.
As a young woman she united with the Baptist church. Several years ago united with the Methodist church at Oak and was a faithful, active member as long as her health permitted. She passed into the Great Beyond from her home, after having been an invalid for more than two years. Another of our pioneers and early settlers has gone to her Heavenly Home, where all suffering and hardships are past.
She leaves two brothers, eight children, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
No, not cold beneath the grases (sic),
Not close-walled within the tomb;
Rather, in my Father's mansion,
Living in another room.
The funeral service was conducted in the Methodist church (sic) at Oak, Friday afternoon at two o'clock, by Rev. Clarence Powell of Nelson, assisted by Rev. J.A. Adams of Elmwood, and Mrs. E.V. Powell of Nelson.
The music was furnished by Mrs. Emerson Powell, Mrs. John Scroggin, Earl Kincannon and Lowell Powell, with Mrs. Nova Moore at the piano. The pallbearers were: Roy Moore, Jim Moore, Mike Buresh, Harry Marr, John Scroggin and Harry Snyder. Burial was in Oak cemetery.
