Lydia Buenning was born in Emmet, Dodge County, Wi on Nov 10, 1858, the daughter of Johann and Wilhelmina Buenning. In her childhood she was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church. On March 6, 1879 she married Charles W. Boltz. Together they had twelve children, ten of which reached adulthood. Ella (Thom), Willie (died in infancy), William, John, Frank, Minnie (died in infancy), Sidney, Sarah (Gatz), Florence (Mundt), Frances (Mundt), Winifred (Wenzel) and Clarence. Lydia, Charles and their children were early members of the Bakertown Baptist Church and Cemetery. She died of "anemia" on May 16, 1911 at the age of 52 years, 5 months.

Her obituary lists her as "a quiet, unassuming woman who devoted herself to her family with untiring zeal and bore her long illness with christian fortitude".
