Betty Jane Stambaugh and George Airing United in Marriage on Saturday

Miss Betty Jane Stambaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stambaugh 506 West Princess street (sic), was married to George Rodney Airing, son of Mr. and Mrss. (sic) John Airing, 15 East Canal street (sic), Dover, at 8 o'clock Saturday evenung (sic) in the Third E. U. B. Church.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Earl E. Redding in a setting of candle light, palms and gladioli. T

he bride was given in marriage by her brother, Preston Stambaugh. She was attired in a gown of white satin with a bodice of imported chantilly lace. The off-shoulder neckline featured an insert of illusion net and the long sleeves were pointed over her hands. The skirt ended in a long satin train. Her headdress was a cloche of chantilly lace attached to a fingertip veil and she carried a bouquet of calla lilies with lily of the valley.

Florence Stambaugh, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a mint green organdy gown over satin with matching mitts. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Fred McDonald and Mrs. Dale Shelley, sisters of the bride. Their gowns were of orchid taffeta with decolletage necklines edged in net. They also wore matching mitt and carried old fashioned nosegays.

The flower girl, Linda Shelley, niece of the bride, wore mint green frosted organdy over satin styled with a bertha collar. She wore a matching bonnet and carried a basket of mixed Spring flowers.

Both the mother of the bride and the bridegroom's mother chose outfits of navy blue and corsages of red roses. The bride's mother wore white accessories while the bridegroom's mother's accessories were navy.

Raymond Lankford Jr. was the best man. Ushers were Earl Keppner and Sherman Brillhart.

Organ music was presented by Thomas Davis included, "At Dawning" (Cadman), "O Promise Me" (Dekoven), "Indian Love Call" (Friml) and traditional wedding marches.

The soloist, Mrs. Norman Mummert, sang "Because" (d'Hardelot), "I Love You Truly" (Bond), "Always" (Berlin) and durng (sic) the ceremony, "The Lord's Prayer" (Malotte).

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the social room of the church. Upon their return from a wedding trip to New York, the couple will reside at the home of the bridegroom.

The bride attended William Penn Senior High School and is employed by Bon-Ton Foods Inc. Her husband attended Dover High School and is employed by the A.B. Farquhar Company.

Dover - Betty Jane Airing, 86, passed into the presence of our Lord peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

She was the loving wife of George R. Airing. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage on May 26, 2019. Born on July 9, 1932 in York, Betty was a daughter of the late Norman and Nettie (Lentz) Stambaugh.

She was a member of Salem U.C.C., Dover. Betty retired from Dentsply following 30 years of service and was a member of the Dentsply 25 year club. She enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Europe, spending summers at Stone Harbor, NJ and time in the Potter County Mountains at the family cabin. Playing cards with family and friends was another one of Betty's passions, along with her flower beds and her personal battle of the weeds. Her most precious and enjoyable times were spent with family, relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two sons, Bradley Airing and wife, Deborah of York and Brian Airing and companion, Bonnie Gray of Wharton, Potter County; two grandsons, Samuel and Cody Airing of York; a step-grandson, Chad Bailey and wife, Carmen McNally Bailey of Miami, FL; four great grandsons, Blake and Hunter Airing, Zayon and Jared Bailey; two sisters, Florence Lankford and Edna McDonald; and two brothers, William and Carl Stambaugh. She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Geraldine, Treva, Norman Jr., Paul, Earl and Preston.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Betty's memorial service at 11 a.m. and the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Salem U.C.C., 2705 W. Canal Rd., Dover. Burial is private in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Ruthann Seibert. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is serving her family.
