WALLOWA MAN FOUND DEAD IN TRAILER
MILTON-FREEWATER - Stephen Lee Skillings, 23, Wallowa, was found dead in a trailer on Dry Creek, south of Milton-Freewater, according to state police at Pendleton.
Police said Skillings had apparently slept in the trailer Friday night. He was found dead Saturday morning. Police reported a strong odor of gas in the trailer. Dr. Paul Knowles, Umatilla County medical examiner, reported the cause of death appeared to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
State police are investigating.

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR STEVE SKILLINGS
Memorial services for Stephen Lee Skillings of Wallowa, who passed away on Saturday, December 22, 1973, of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning as he lay sleeping in a camper trailer at the home of Richard Savage on Dry Creek near Milton-Freewater, were yesterday (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the Wallowa Church of Christ with the Bollman Funeral Home in charge and with Rev. Robert James officiating. Interment was in the Bramlet Memorial Cemetery near Wallowa.
Son of Isaac and Luella Skillings, he was born Sept. 16, 1950 at Enterprise, and had lived in Wallowa all of his life. He was a graduate of the Wallowa high school with the class of 1969. He had been logging.
Surviving are his parents, Isaac and Luella Skillings of Wallowa; three sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Verna) Mudie and Mrs. Wayne (Vickie) Hyatt of Pendleton, and Anita Skillings of Wallowa; and two brothers, Ricky with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis and Jay of Wallowa, and a grandmother, Nellie Lewis of Wallowa.
